It’s no surprise with divorce rates rising all the time, at age 35 you suddenly find yourself divorced and now you’re ready to start dating again. In fact, the number of single women over 35 is at an all-time high of 27 million. You’ve asked friends for advice and find that more and more of them are going online to find dates.

Online dating is the most current method of finding a friend and a partner. In fact it has been estimated that online dating is the largest growing sector of online content and that over forty million people in the United States alone use online dating websites on a monthly basis. In fact, it is surprising to note that as people age; they are more likely to use online dating as opposed to the more ‘traditional’ methods of finding a date!

There are many advantages of online dating, and some of them are even more beneficial to those of us who are over the age of thirty five. While our younger counterparts may be more ‘internet savvy’ than we are, chances are that we’re more realistic in our expectations of online dating (that is we’re not necessarily looking to find Mr. or Ms. Right the first time out), we don’t necessarily need a lot of dating tips (since we’ve been there and done that once or twice), and looks are far less important to us than they are to our younger brothers and sisters!

Online dating also has some distinct advantages (regardless of your age) in that it allows you to screen people by talking to them extensively before you meet them. Granted, there are some folks out there who are going to snowball us, but overall, those who are taking the time to join an online dating service are there for the same reason you are – to find a companion and to meet someone they are interested in.

For those who are just re-entering the ‘dating’ marketplace, online dating can provide a safe way to get your feet wet again without needing to deal with the bar scene, or require you to get involved in activities that you might not necessarily have sufficient time for. Online dating provides a fun and interactive space to chat with people and get to know them before you ever meet, increasing the chances that once you do meet you will have a comfort level that might not be there when you are introduced to someone for the first time through a friend.

As online dating popularity grows and we baby boomers take advantage of it, more and more sites will be available for those of us who don’t want to have to weed through the ‘under 30’s’ who currently belong to many of the online dating sites.
