Truthful or Un-Truthful: Dating Lies Revealed

One of the advantages of meeting someone face to face is you can often determine if they are being honest with you. When you meet someone through an online dating service, this can often be more difficult to determine. Anonymity can often lead people to do things they might never otherwise do, and that could result in someone who signs up on an online dating service winding up with a person that is totally different than the person they’re expecting to meet. Here are some that can help you weed out the less than truthful people on your online dating service:

1) When reviewing an online dating profile, be wary if the profile seems to be exaggerated, or discloses information that seems to be full of self-promotion or boasting. This may suggest that your online has something to hide.

2) When communicating via email or chats with someone you’ve met through an online dating service, and they are evasive about things that seem simple, because they may be trying to cover something up. Things like age, what state they live in, do they have children, type of work they do – if you can’t get answers to these ‘basics’ then you will want to exercise some caution.

3) Are you noticing inconsistencies in your online dating service match chats or emails? Simple things like age, how long they’ve been on their job, what they are looking for in a relationship? These could be and should be warning flags that your online dating match isn’t who they say they are.

4) Do you feel your internal radar go off when chatting or emailing with your online dating match? Your instincts are generally pretty accurate and you may find that you will want to seek other online dating matches if this is a problem. Often your instincts will prevent you from making a mistake!

5) After you’ve been communicating for a while, does your online dating service match still refuse to divulge any personal information? If they simply tell you they’re not comfortable enough to do so yet, that’s one thing but if you’ve been communicating for a reasonable period of time, and you feel that it’s past time to get down to real names (versus ‘handles’) and more private information, then perhaps you’ve run into someone who is being less than honest about their situation (could be married or involved in another relationship).

6) Does your online dating service match only answer emails late at night or very early in the morning? If you’ve established that this pattern isn’t due to work commitments, you may want to reconsider whether or not they have been completely honest with you about their personal status. Oftentimes married men and women cannot communicate at any other time of the day.

There is absolutely no reason why, when you are working with a reputable online dating service that you shouldn’t expect honesty from your online dates, the same as you would with someone that was introduced to you by a friend or a family member.

Online dating services are available to potentially enhance your life, but you certainly want to connect with someone who is open and honest.
