Keep your conversations light and fun. For instance, if you receive a message from someone that interests you, before you respond, go read his/her profile in its entirety. Then choose something unique and in your response, mention this thing. Let us say the person had accomplished something very special such as competing in the Boston Marathon or had a book published. When you respond, compliment him/her on that accomplishment. Immediately, you have won valuable points.

To leave a lasting impression, you have to lose the rigid dating process. With online dating, you have to be flirtatious without going overboard. Just like with anything, this type of dating takes a little practice. You will make mistakes and probably lose several people that you really wanted to get to know. However, do not let that be a deterrent. Instead, learn from your mistakes as you go, make the corrections, and then watch as you start making more and more connections.

Just remember that initially, you need to show interest in the other person. That does not mean not to share anything about yourself, but by showing true interest in them, they are eager to learn more about you. Finally, be sincere when asking questions. By that, try not to ask too many of the typical questions they hear from every other member trying to make a connection. Rather than ask, "So, how was your upbringing," you might ask, "What was the favorite thing about your childhood, your favorite memory?" By making the questions more direct, you will receive a much better response.
